Gather your ingredients
Having the best ingredients is the first step to creating the best egg Mcmuffin sandwich.
First, gather all your ingredients. You will need fresh eggs, English muffins, Canadian bacon, American cheese, salt and pepper, cooking spray, and egg rings. Egg rings are essential for getting the perfect round shape for your eggs, just like the ones in a traditional egg McMuffin sandwich. If you do not have egg rings, you can use a wide-mouthed mason jar lid instead.
How to make an egg McMuffin sandwich
Preheat your cooking surface over medium heat. I prefer a cast iron pan, it’s my go to but you could use a griddle or non-stick pan, whichever you choose. Cook the Canadian bacon for a couple minutes per side, until browned, then remove.
While you are cooking the Canadian bacon, cut your English muffins in half and toast until golden brown. Toasting the English muffins bring great crunch and texture to the sandwich. It’s a must.
Next, place the egg rings into the pan and spray the cooking surface and the inside of the egg rings with cooking spray. Crack an egg into each ring. Break the yolk, then lightly scramble the egg with a fork and season with salt and pepper. Add 1/4 cup or so of water around the outside of the pan, then cover with a lid or cookie sheet. Cook the eggs until they are set, about 3 to 4 minutes.
Once the eggs are set and firm, remove the egg rings and flip the eggs over. Place two slices of Canadian bacon on each egg and cover with a slice of American cheese. I like to fold the corners in on my cheese so that it melts over the egg more evenly, but is optional. I just think American cheese can melt in a gooey mess quickly and folding it helps avoid that. Add another 1/4 cup or so of water around the outside of the pan and cover again, cook just until the cheese had melted.
Lastly, assemble the sandwiches by putting the eggs on the English muffin bottoms and cover with the muffin tops.
Now you have an easy recipe for the best egg McMuffin sandwiches at home. Not only is it simple, but it is incredibly delicious too. Skip the drive through and enjoy these for breakfast, brunch or dinner. These sandwiches are satisfying at any time of day.
