Here’s a spooky spell book DIY project for the Halloween lovers out there. I have a really old picture album that was no longer being used. It is torn in places, looks a little haggard and so that gave me an idea. Let’s make a spooky spell book for the coffee table during Halloween time.
Materials for spell book DIY project
- Old picture album
- Hot glue gun & sticks
- Letters (chipboard or foam)
- Spray paint
- Acrylic paint (optional)
- Plastic spiders (optional)
Instructions
Gather your materials and let’s get to making a spooky spellbook.
I used 3D cardboard letters for scrapbooking to add the word spells on the front cover of the album. Glue them down with hot glue and then let it dry. You can add any type of design to the front and spine of the photo album. So for mine, I chose to make an easy spider web design.
Prep an area where you can put the photo album down then spray paint it. Make sure to get the front and spine. When I painted mine, I got some on the picture pages and it looks pretty cool, though it wasn’t originally intended. Tape off or cover the inside if you are worried about paint getting on it. Let it dry.
Once the album is painted, (optional) dry brush another color over the letters and the glue to give a worn look. I think any color could really make it pop off, but I chose a gray acrylic paint for my spellbook.
After it’s all painted you can add accessories to it, like plastic spiders or faux cobwebs that are used during Halloween time. Or you can leave it simple like I have with my spell book. This part you can let your imagination run and play around with how you want your spell book to look.
I wrote out some spells and other witchy stuff inside my spellbook, though this is mostly for decoration for the holiday.
I hope you have fun making yours. While it can be as simple and easy as mine, you can really decorate the whole thing to the nines, if you are using this for your real spellbook.
