Repurpose an old wreath into a spooky Halloween decoration. Do you have an old Christmas wreath that is about to be tossed in the garbage? Stop right there. Here’s a easy and creative way to restore an old wreath.
This post will inspire you to give life to that old and dated Christmas wreath by transforming it into a charmingly colorful Halloween décor piece. With just a few simple materials, you can turn trash into treasure and an ordinary piece into a festive adornment for your home.
This DIY project is not only cost-efficient but also a great way to reduce waste by repurposing an item that would otherwise be discarded. So, let’s gather our supplies and get crafting.
Materials you’ll need
- Old Christmas wreath
- Mesh tubes
- Glitter pick(s)
- Purple glitter spiders
- Black flowers
- Orange and black ribbon
- Black pipe cleaners
The thing I like best about this project is that it’s highly customizable. Feel free to add or substitute any items based on your personal preferences or what you have on hand. I think as long as it follows the Halloween theme, it will work perfectly fine!
Repurpose an old wreath
First, prepare your wreath by taking your old Christmas wreath and carefully removing any Christmas-specific decorations. Your intent should be to start from scratch with a clean base to work on.
Next, use your mesh tubes. I created tube bows for around the wreath. I think it adds a nice textural element and also provide a good base for attaching the glitter spiders. Use the pipe cleaners to attach and secure the bows to the wreath.
Now, let’s add some sparkle! I only had one glitter pick on hand, so that was the inspiration for this wreath. I also think adding more glitter picks randomly around the wreath would have looked a little nicer. But that is what makes this project so customizable, you can really add whatever you already have or thinks looks good.
Attach the purple glitter spiders to the center of the tube bows which helps to cover up the pipe cleaners. Then add the black flowers for an extra touch of spookiness. I like to space them out around the wreath to create a fuller look.
Finally, take your orange and black ribbon (or any color ribbon that you have) and tie a big, bold bow and add it to your wreath. This will add a big pop of color and more texture. If you already have a premade bow that fits the look you’re going for, perfect! Save yourself time and add that instead.
Conserve your money and the environment by repurposing an old wreath into a Halloween decoration. It is simple, fun, and a creative way to add new life to what could have been considered trash.
Different ways to repurpose an old wreath
There are many creative ways to repurpose an old wreath and give it new life. Here are some ideas:
Create a unique centerpiece – First, remove all old decorations, then lay the wreath flat on a surface. Add a large vase or candle in the center. Surround the vase or candle with fresh or faux flowers, greenery, and/or other seasonal decorations.
Turn into a frame – Use a wreath as a frame for a mirror or picture. Spray paint the wreath before assembly to create a unique touch of color.
Change the seasonal decoration – Repurpose an old wreath into a different holiday or pick a color for a specific theme.
