Poster board hanging hearts are an easy craft to make with the help of your Cricut cutting machine. I love to hang decorations from the ceiling for the holidays. I think it brings your eyes up and adds moodiness to the space. The years go by so fast so decorating is a way to enjoy the most out of every holiday.
Poster boards are relatively cheap. You can find it at the Dollar Tree, a craft store, or even in bulk for a great price. At my last job, we always received a bunch so that’s why I make a lot of poster board decorations throughout the year..
Materials
- Poster board
- Cutting machine
- Scraper (optional)
- Masking tape
- Strong mat
- Yarn or ribbon
- Scissors
- Clear tape
Instructions
Open my Poster Board Hanging Heart décor project in Cricut Design Space. Click “Customize” and make changes before cutting. Once ready, select “Make It” and follow the directions provided.
This project takes a bit of time depending on the size of the hearts as well as how many you decided to cut. But it’s so worth it. While the hearts are cutting, you can also cut the yarn. I cut each piece of yarn to 12 inches. Once your hearts are cut, tie the yarn or ribbon to the hole at the top and hang on the ceiling securely with clear tape.
One of my favorite parts about this project is the variety. By changing the size of the hearts you can create depth in the space where these are hung. For my home, I made large hearts at 11 inches and medium hearts at 7 ½ inches.
Ways to add color to poster board hanging hearts
Depending on your decor you may want a bolder look than the plain white poster board. Drastically change the look of these decorations by adding color and/or texture. Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Use paint – with a brush or sponge
- Pick a colored poster board
- Add color with markers, colored pencils or other medium
- Spray glue and dust with glitter
Poster board is a great base that holds up well. Once the holiday is over, store these neatly in sheet protectors or scrapbook sheets and save to reuse them again next year.
