Pool noodles can be used in so many ways so today we’re making custom pool noodle candles. A perfect fit for this Halloween season.
Pool noodles are super cheap once the summer season is over. Which is the best time to get them. Our store had them marked for $.50 – such a steal nowadays. Depending on the season, the dollar tree has them for $1.25, still a great price.
A few pool noodles goes a long way. Depending on how tall your candles are, you can get multiple from one pool noodle. If you want a large bundle of candles grab a couple pool noodles.
The super fun thing about custom making your own pool noodle candles, you can make them to fit for any occasion. You can change the color of the candles by different spray paints, and colored additions, really making them versatile.
You can paint the pool noodles cream or white for a neutral palette year round. Paint them red for Christmas, black for Halloween. Really let your imagination run wild when your making these. It’s more fun that way.
So let’s begin making these custom flame less candles from pool noodles.

Check out the list of materials needed for this project. I’m a visual person so I’ve made a supply list image that you can save for quick reference, that is easy to follow.
Measure different lengths on the pool noodle and mark them with a sharpie marker.
Starting with a ruler, a marker, utility knife and your pool noodle(s). This is where you will be cutting the pool noodle using your utility knife. Please be careful!
Note if you are making more than one arrangement of candles, I suggest using the marker to also number the bottom of the candles. This is extremely helpful for quick reference when you go to glue them together. I made six arrangements when I glued them together, it was easier to glue all the 1’s candles, 2’s candles… etcetera.
Next you’ll need to cut out where the flameless candle will go. Trace a tea light candle and cut the center of the pool noodle out so the tea light fits.
Using a low temperature hot glue gun, glue the pool noodles together.
This is important to note when assembling these candles. You will want to use a low temperature hot glue gun. The high temperature glue will destroy the pool noodle more so than gluing it together. It starts to disintegrate the noodle versus securing them together. Now you can add lots of fake wax drips around the top of the candle to give it a realistic touch.
Spray paint the noodles and let them dry completely.
If your pool noodles are not the color you need, spray paint them. You may need to apply multiple coats of paint. If so, let the layers dry in between applications.
Decorate your pool noodle candles.
Lastly, and probably the most fun part of all, decorations. This is where you can change up the style of the candles. You can add any type of accessories you may like or have on hand.
I chose flowers, pumpkins and a spider.
These flame less candles are great decor for any space. No flames means they are safe to leave unattended and around animals. As you can see, my Lelu girl is quite interested, but I don’t need to worry as these don’t have a burning flame.
See pool noodles are no longer just for the water. Now it is skies the limit for unique pool noodle turned candles.
