Deco mesh garland instantly fills a room with holiday cheer bringing joy and excitement into every space. If you’re choosing to keep it simple this year or if you’re the type who goes all out, a deco mesh garland is a phenomenal decorative piece.
The first frost of the season is upon us here in Florida and boy it is a bit cold as the sun is rising. The decorations are coming out and I’m excited to start making the house really feel like Christmas time.
So I want to share my deco mesh garlands with you all. I absolutely love making these. Every single one becomes my next favorite.
Not going to lie, I gather my materials and just go with what speaks to me, I rarely have a plan. Which is probably why the next one turns out to be my favorite. Hah as Tom Brady would say when asked which ring is his favorite, the next one.
Materials for Deco Mesh Garland
- Mini Christmas lights – mine are 9.5’ lighted length
- Deco mesh rolls in various colors – 12” x 30’
- Wired ribbon
- Accessories (ornaments, picks, flowers, etc)
- Pipe cleaner / Chenille wire or zip ties
- Scissors and/or rotary cutter and cutting mat
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks (optional)
Instructions
Grab your materials and we’ll get creative.
Unravel the lights and stretch them out. I find it best when the strand of lights is taut. The mesh tends to lay however it wants and it’s easier to attach the deco mesh to light when it is stretched out.
For my garlands I use pipe cleaners. Other ways to attach the mesh to the strand would be floral wire or zip ties. As for the accessories, you may want to use a hot glue gun depending on what you’re working with.
Attach the deco mesh to the lighted strand however you prefer. Gather some mesh and attach and continue until all the mesh is used up and your strand looks full. There are many cool methods you can choose from.
Some garlands of mine have more techniques used on each one while others are basic and simple. I like the bubble effect as well as curling and scrunching the mesh together. It really depends on how much garland you are planning on using and how you want your garland to look.
Each of my garlands are different so the ribbon is cut at different lengths. I like to cut my ribbon anywhere between 7 inches and 12 inches long depending on how full your garland looks or if you want the ribbon to show off more than the deco mesh. I added those in between the bubbles where the mesh was attached to the lights with pipe cleaners. Other times, I attached my ribbon over the deco mesh to flow with the lighted strand.
Sell at craft fairs
These deco mesh garlands not only light up a room (no pun intended) they are wonderful conversation starters. I actually sell these at craft fairs and people love to look and talk about them. It’s a great way to share creative ideas with others. I love it.
If you are interested in one of my deco mesh garlands, I can customize them and make them unique so please send me an email (megan@emjaybdeedesign.com) and we can talk more about it.
