A wood block centerpiece is a great gift for mom on Mother’s Day. And a custom gift is even better. So today I’m sharing this inexpensive craft that will be sure to light up moms face on her special day.
I love dollar store crafts. You can find a lot of cute things at a cheap price. The Dollar Tree continues to offer more supplies and craft materials for our creative hearts and I love that.
In the toy section which usually is not too far from the crafts, you can find a tumbling blocks game. The dollar store’s version of Jenga which has 72 blocks. I used all of the blocks.
Materials
- 72 Wood tumbling blocks – 1 pack from the Dollar Tree
- Wood glue or hot glue (Wood glue is stronger. Hot glue hardens faster though not always the best option.)
- Scrapbook paper (see other options below)
- Scissors or cutting board/paper trimmer
- Mod Podge (optional)
- Flowers – faux or real

How to make a wood block centerpiece
Let’s start by gluing blocks together to create the frame. I glued 6 blocks together to make a post (a set of blocks). Now repeat that 11 more times to create the (12) pieces we need. Refer to the picture below.
Let’s start by gluing blocks together to create the frame. I glued 6 blocks together to make a post (a set of blocks). Now repeat that 11 more times to create the (12) posts or sets of blocks. This will create all the pieces we need to assemble into a rectangular cube. Refer to the graphics below.
Once your cube is assembled and dry, measure the space you will cover with a photo, scrapbook or whatever you choose. I left a ¼ inch border around the outside that exposes the wood blocks. So my paper was cut to 5” tall by 6” wide. Yours may vary so measure just to be sure.
Then when all sides are covered and the paper or pictures have dried you can put flowers in it or fill it however you choose. Even though this is for a Mother’s Day gift, I wanted my mom to enjoy it all year round. She is a plant lady so my plan for this was to fit over a small vase and she could display flowers in it.
Ways to personalize this project
I chose scrapbook paper for my project that has words and flowers. You could use plain or patterned cardstock paper. Photographs would be the ultimate way to personalize this center piece. Also magazine cut outs, favorite book pages, or even tissue paper. Though I wouldn’t recommend tissue paper if using real flowers and water as it could ruin your work.
If you created this art project, I would love to see how it turned out. Feel free to share with me on my social media. @EmjaybeeDesign #EmjaybeeDesign
