Pool Noodle Christmas candles are simple to make and are a fun way to add festive cheer to your Christmas displays. They are great décor for your mantle, shelves or holiday tables.
You may have seen my other post where I turned pool noodles into Halloween candles. The holiday is changing and I’m upcycling these into a non-traditional Christmas version. Each year we decorate multiple trees for our home and one of our trees is black. So I decided to go with a black, white and red color palette and it looks awesome. For this reason, the inspiration for these black Christmas candles is from our tree, pictured below.
Mine are spray painted with black paint and decorated with red floral accents. You could choose another color like red or green or make them traditional and paint them white.
I chose a holiday pick and poinsettia styled flower as my accents, but another great addition may be ornaments or bells. Surely, anything that feels like the holiday and Christmas, would be a great decoration.

Simple instructions
First, determine how many noodles you will need. If you only make one bundle of a few candles, you can get enough out of one pool noodle. If you want more or a larger bundle of candles, then you will obviously need to consider getting more than one pool noodle.
Start by cutting your pool noodle or noodles into different lengths. This will be where you decide how tall each of your candles will be.
Trace a flameless tea light candle on the top of each pool noodle. You will need to carefully cut the top out so the tea light sets in place as the flame.
Next, using a low temp glue gun, glue each of the candles together and add drips to create a melting candle look. Don’t use a high temp hot glue gun because it will melt the pool noodle away versus gluing the pieces together.
Now, spray paint your candle bundle. You may need multiple coats, if so, just let it dry in between.
Once the paint is dry, add your flameless tea light candles to the top and add your holiday accents around the candles.
These pool noodle Christmas candles are really easy to make. It takes a little bit of time and in the end it makes cute faux Christmas candle decorations.
More pool noodle Christmas décor ideas
In addition to candles, there are many other ways to incorporate pool noodles into your Christmas displays. Here are a few options to get you inspired:
- Wreath – use a pool noodle as the frame of the wreath. Attach ornaments, flowers, and other Christmas decorations.
- Jumbo candy canes – paint white and wrap with a red ribbon to create a larger than life peppermint candy cane.
- Centerpiece – cut a pool noodle in half lengthwise, attach decorations to cover the entire pool noodle half. This would also work great on a thin railing for stairs.
Well there you have it. I surely hope you enjoyed this project and took away some fun inspiration for your own holiday pool noodle crafts!
